In Wales, sappers destroyed a real bomb that a local couple kept in their garden as a decoration.
The explosive device lay in the yard for more than a century. Sian and Geoffrey Edwards were upset when they learned that their “jewelry” was explosive, the BBC and The Guardian reported.
The rocket, which was lying near the Edwards house, dates from about the end of the 19th century.
The couple thought it was a “dummy” bomb without a charge. Sian Edwards said she often tapped the bomb with a spade to shake the soil off it after working in the garden.
However, the object was recently noticed by a policeman. He informed the owners of the house that he would call the sappers to destroy the bomb.

“That was our ‘old friend’. I’m so sorry that the poor guy was torn to shreds”– said 77-year-old Jeffrey Edwards.
The story of this bomb was told to him by the Morris family, because the previous owner of the house was their relative.
He found the bomb more than 100 years ago when Royal Navy ships were docked in St Brides Bay. They were learning to shoot at targets near the Welsh village of Broad Haven.
“Pop Morris, a lemonade vendor, was riding down to Broad Haven on horseback and found a shell.
He barely got it ashore, put it on a cart and drove 7 miles home. He put it in the yard, where it remained.”– said Jeffrey.
When the Edwardses bought the house in 1982, the bomb was painted red to match the window sill.
It stood in the garden during two world wars.
Recently, the bomb was transported to an abandoned quarry in Walwyn Castle, covered with five tons of sand and detonated.
“We can confirm that on 30 November 2023, members of 721 Sapper Platoon, 11 Sapper Regiment RLC, based in Ashchurch, responded to an inquiry from Dyfed Powys Police about a suspicious ordnance.
A team of minesweepers assessed the object and determined it to be a 64-pound naval shell that had been removed from the scene for further detonation.”the Ministry of Defense confirmed.
