A citizen of Sweden was sentenced for a video with the burning of the Koran

For the first time in the world, a citizen of Sweden was convicted for burning the Koran.

The court found guilty a 27-year-old resident of the city of Linköping, who in 2020 burned the holy book of Muslims and posted the video on Twitter, according to Bloomberg.

Burning the Koran as such is not a violation of the law, but the district court concluded that the defendant had threatened Muslims when he posted a video of himself burning Islam’s holy book.

The Swede was found guilty of “agitation against an ethnic or national group” and given a two-year suspended sentence.

The video was published on September 11, 2020. It depicted the burning of a Koran alongside bacon on a barbecue grill, all accompanied by music that the court ruled was “closely linked” to the 2019 New Zealand mosque bombings that killed 51 people.

“The court found that the video was directed against Muslims and not against Islam as a religion. The content of the video and the manner in which it was published clearly shows that the main purpose of the defendant could not have been anything other than threats and expressions of disrespect.” the court statement says.

We will remind, in Indonesia, a blogger was imprisoned for saying the Muslim prayer before eating pork.
