A Ukrainian computer game about Cossacks, developed by a schoolboy from Volyn, won the INOVA-2023 international exhibition of inventions in Croatia.

This year, the gold medal of the competition was won by Taras Gembik, a student of Kamin-Kashir Lyceum No. 1 named after Yevhen Shabliovsky, who is fond of programming, informs the Volyn Regional Small Academy of Sciences.

The guy developed the computer game “Cossack Steppes”, which tells about the culture, everyday life and historical events of the Cossack times, under the guidance of teacher Serhiy Tishkov.

Taras said that the idea of the game arose on February 16 last year, on Unity Day. The guy wanted to create something that would help tell the history of Ukraine to the whole world.

“By design, it gives an opportunity to experience a certain historical event and take part in the battle from the first person. In the educational first episode, the player gets acquainted with the game world and controls a boy who escaped from serfdom.

After the user passes several levels that teach him how to fight with sabers, shoot a bow or a gun, he will be able to play as a character from our history, such as Bohdan Khmelnytskyi.Taras commented.

“Cossack Steppes” also tells about the culture, customs, economy, lifestyle and even food of the Ukrainian Cossacks.

For example, in the first episode, the player has to cook borscht for the entire settlement.

The author of the game says that it can be interesting for everyone who wants to learn more about the history and culture of the Cossacks.

In particular, the development can be useful for schoolchildren when preparing for lessons and exams on the history of Ukraine.

After winning the competition, Taras does not plan to stop and will improve his game.

“I set a very high bar for myself: I want the game to have cool graphics and a technical base. That’s why the development is still ongoing. Currently I want to expand the team and find sponsors”says the schoolboy.

As a reminder, INOVA is an international competition that has been held since 1971 in Zagreb and is one of the oldest scientific events.

Every year at the exhibition, young scientists from all over the world present projects in the sections of construction, electronics, medicine, environment, security, sports, social innovations and many others, say the MAN.

Previously, the projects of Ukrainian high school students won the NASA competition for the program of school space experiments. Thus, mini-laboratories of Ukrainian students from Kharkiv and Odesa flew into space on an American spacecraft.
