A patient who underwent a heart-lung transplant died in Lviv

A 38-year-old patient, who was the first in Ukraine to have a heart-lung complex transplanted from a posthumous donor, died in Lviv.
The tragic news was reported on the Facebook page of the First Medical Association of Lviv.
“We are saddened to inform you that the patient who underwent a heart-lung transplant last week has unfortunately died.
Despite all the efforts of medical workers and a successfully performed operation, it was not possible to save her: there was an acute rejection of donor organs.”the doctors said.
38-year-old Nina from the Kyiv region had a heart defect from birth. On October 25, she underwent a transplant, for which she had been waiting for over a year and a half.
The patient’s condition rapidly deteriorated on the second day after transplantation.
The teams of doctors of the medical association and the Heart Institute emphasized that they did everything possible to stabilize him, in particular, they connected ECMO – a device that replaces the work of the heart and lungs.
However, at such an early stage, it was almost impossible to overcome the acute rejection of two organs at the same time.
“All resuscitation measures, unfortunately, turned out to be useless. For our entire team and everyone who fought for Nina’s life and believed in her recovery, this is a big blow.
There is nothing worse than losing a patient. We express our deepest condolences to the family of the late Nina. Bright memory”, – say the doctors.
