A powerful explosion occurred on the Sun – a “canyon of fire” was formed. VIDEO

On October 31, an eruption occurred on the Sun, due to which a huge “canyon of fire” was formed, at least twice as wide as the United States.
As Space writes, the width of this solar chasm is 10,000 km, and the length is 100,000 km.
The appearance of the fiery canyon is associated with the eruption of a magnetic filament on the Sun. Solar magnetic filaments are huge arcs of electrified plasma that are located above the Sun’s surface and pierce its atmosphere.
When the magnetic field becomes unstable, the magnetic filament collapses and this leads to a huge explosion. This was recorded by the SOHO spacecraft.
Physicist Keith Strong shared with these incredible shots of an eruption on the Sun.
“The explosion was very powerful, and in the video you can even see how tiny our planet is compared to the plasma filament,” – says the physicist.
Scientists have not yet determined whether this eruption on the Sun led to a coronal mass ejection, when charged plasma from the corona – the upper layer of the Sun’s atmosphere – is ejected into space. If this happened, it is not yet known whether this emission could have been directed towards the Earth. NASA promises to answer this question soon.
But if at least part of the coronal mass ejection is directed toward our planet, the plasma flow can cause spectacular and very bright auroras to appear on our planet near the end of the week.
