AI Love Bread: Japanese bakery used AI to produce “romantic bread”

The oldest bakery in Japan (Kimuraya) together with the Japanese electronics company NEC Corp produced “Romantic bread with artificial intelligence”. It is presented in five flavors.
The creators of such bread claim that the new offer reflects the essence of feelings that many associate with love, writes CNN.
A bakery and an electronics company have teamed up to increase their appeal among younger generations of Japanese people. Having conducted research on the market and its customer base, the Kimuraya bakery found out that more and more young people are not interested in romantic relationships.
However, there were also those who had a strong desire to go on a date and fall in love. For them, the bakery decided to create AI Love Bread – bread that “recreates the aromas of romance.”

NEC used its AI technology to analyze conversations on a reality TV dating show. Thus, the company identified five key stages of romantic feelings:
- fateful meeting;
- first date;
- jealousy;
- a broken heart;
- mutual love.
The artificial intelligence then collected the lyrics of approximately 35,000 songs related to love and food. From these, he created a visual map connecting different stages of love and certain foods and tastes.
So, the “Fateful Meeting” bread came out seasoned with cotton candy, which represents the “airy” emotions of the first impulses of love. “First date” is filled with citrus fruits: lime and orange peel.
Jealousy bread is flavored with purple sweet potato, truffle oil and raisins, while Mutual Love is a sweet-tart blend of honey, peach and dragon fruit.
Muffin manufacturers hope that eating such bread will inspire love.
Despite the fact that all the ingredients of the bread were selected by artificial intelligence, the process of its creation did not do without people.
“Our role was to ‘transform’ the ingredients into bread. We paid attention to the colors used to visually express romantic emotions and aimed to create a bright-looking Love Bread“, says Yuki Kitazawa, developer of Kimuraya Bakery.
