Andrii Shcherbanivskyi, a marathon runner, died in the war

On March 23, 44-year-old Andrii Shcherbanivskyi, a military man and marathon runner, died on the front line. Andriy is survived by his wife, Olena Shcherbanivska, and two children, reported in the “Sports Angels” project organized by the Sports Committee of Ukraine. In 2016, he served in the ATO zone. He went to war for the second time after the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation in 2022. Friends and colleagues remember Shcherbanivskyi as a true professional. Andrii Shcherbanivskyi “You could always rely on him. We organized the marathon for 10 years, and Andrii was an integral part of it, probably a key one. He and his wife,” said Dmytro Chernitskyi, the founder of the Kyiv Marathon. Andriy Shcherbanivskyi ran and had a personal record – he covered 42 km in two and a half hours. The man was born and raised in Kyiv. In 2001, he graduated from Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. He tried to convey his love for sports to others – he devoted many years to the marathon and the development of the marathon movement in Ukraine, the project says. Andriy Shcherbanivskyi has been organizing marathons and half-marathons in Kyiv for the past 10 years. Since 2013, Andriy has been responsible for the organizational part of Run Ukraine. The “Sports Angels” project recalled that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Russia has killed 262 Ukrainian athletes and coaches. Among the dead are champions of the world, Europe and Ukraine, as well as children who took their first steps in sports and showed their first promising results. It will be recalled that Mykhailo Korenovskyi, a boxing coach and father of two children, died in Dnipro.
