Archaeological excavations have revealed children’s shoes more than 2000 years old

In Austria, German archaeologists found children’s shoes that are more than 2 thousand years old and very well preserved.

The find was discovered near Salzburg, which was known for the mining of rock salt, which was carried out even in the Iron Age, the German Mining Museum reports.

It is thanks to the preservative effect of salt that leather children’s shoes have been preserved well. The size of the shoes corresponds to the modern 30th. The remnants of the linen lacing have also been preserved. The shoes were probably made in the 2nd century BC.

In the immediate vicinity of the find, archaeologists also found organic remains: a fragment of a wooden shovel and the remains of fur with lacing, possibly a fragment of a fur hood.

Excavations will continue for the next few years.

Their goal is to open up the whole space and thus get as complete information as possible about the work of the Iron Age miners and their way of life.
