As the head of the “Community of börners of Ukraine” told Yaroslav Koretsthe implementation of the Ukrainian project was supported by a grant from the organizers of the Burning Man Project.

According to him, the idea for the installation arose when the festival announced the theme of this year – ANIMALIA. Then the Ukrainian team decided to make a giant hedgehog, built from anti-tank hedgehogs and covered with a military pixel grid. Korets explained that with such an installation, the authors wanted to show the symbol of Ukraine defending itself, as well as dedicate it to the dead.

The Hedgehog Temple war memorial, dedicated to Ukrainians who will never be able to go to Burning Man again, because the war took them away… We bring to Burning Man our pain and grief from human losses. We want to tell the stories of our friends from the creative community who were taken away by the war. Artists, DJs, musicians, filmmakers, painters, IT people, journalists… they could be with us at Burning Man, but they will never be able to because of Russian argesis“, he added.

The production of a rusted metal hedgehog, seven meters tall, with a hundred anti-tank hedgehogs in its belly, was completed in June in Kyiv. It has now been loaded into a container and sent by ocean to the USA.

Also, next to the installation, anti-tank hedgehogs will be placed, on which the stories of the dead will be written. Artist Oleksandr Slobodyanuk called on all those willing to send memories of loved ones or relatives. “If you want photos, stories, personal belongings of your Heroes to get to our Temple and help save those who defend us with you. It can be a chevron, a photo, glasses, a cap, a bracelet, any personal item, or anything that we can display in our temple and through which we can reach people on the other side of the planet“, he wrote.

Burning Man – an annual festival of independent art. It has been held since 1986 in the Black Rock Desert in the state of Nevada (USA). At the festival, various art objects are installed in the desert, and at the end, a giant human figure made of wood is burned.

Last year, the Lithuanian-American camp Amber Dust installed a five-meter trident at the festival as a sign of solidarity with Ukraine.
