UNESCO included 20 objects of cultural heritage of Ukraine in the International list of cultural values ​​that are under enhanced protection. This was announced on the website of the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine. The decision to add 20 objects to the special UNESCO register was made at the third extraordinary meeting of the Committee of the Second Protocol to the Hague Convention on the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict, which took place on September 7. The meeting was attended by the Deputy Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine Anastasia Bondar and the Head of the Sector for Monitoring the Situation in the Temporarily Occupied Territories of the ICIP Lina Doroshenko. The request to the Secretariat of the Hague Convention regarding the inclusion of 20 objects in the International List of Cultural Values ​​under enhanced protection was created by the Ukrainian side: MKIP with the support of the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to UNESCO and the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. “For more than 500 days, the Ukrainian people continue to show their resilience and demonstrate their determination in the fight against the aggressor. We do not accept war as an ordinary thing. We do not accept either the occupation of our territories or the destruction of our cultural heritage. So let this meeting be another step of our joint mission – the preservation and restoration of cultural heritage objects,” Anastasia Bondar said during her speech. Which objects are in question Most of the objects that have been included in the list of cultural properties under enhanced protection are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List and the previous UNESCO World Heritage List, excluding objects located in the temporarily occupied territories , the historical center of Odessa and Chernihiv. The ICIP’s statement refers to the following objects: St. Sophia Cathedral and related monastic buildings, Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra; Lviv – Ensemble of the historical center; Wooden churches of the Carpathian region. At the same time, the preliminary conclusions of the UNESCO International Expert Mission on the Assessment of Damage to Cultural and Religious Objects in Odesa will be taken into account. It is also planned training of specialists in the field of protection of cultural values, conducting trainings for the military and other activities”, – wrote on the website of the ICIP.
