Debris from a Russian missile fell near the Center for the Rescue of Wild Animals near Kyiv. As a result, one of the lionesses received a concussion.
Debris of the rocket fell 300 meters from its enclosure, the organization said.
As Nataliya Popova, head of the Center for the Rescue of Wild Animals, said in a comment for “UP. Life”, a 2-year-old African lioness named Yuna was injured.
“At first it was very bright, and then there was a lot of fire and smoke. Yuna was the only one outside. The flight happened in a field, there was not even a single tree between that place and the enclosure.” – she shared.
According to Natalia, she was the first to see the lioness after the shelling.
“Now Yuna is completely uncoordinated and can’t stand on her feet. The doctors have prescribed treatment, but they don’t give any prognosis.” – said the head of the center.
The other animals are frightened, but they do not have the same consequences as Yuna. They were in the building at the time of the rocket attack.
Nataliya says that until today, Yuna had no health problems. It was being prepared for shipment to Europe – the documents should be ready soon.
“Yuna was rescued in the Kyiv region. She lived in a small cage with another lion. He oppressed her, so Yuna was under stress all the time. When we took them both, they had frostbite, because they lived on concrete without even bedding. That’s African animals, they are not adapted to our winter.
Although we separated them, Yuna’s stress continued for quite a long time. However, by today she had fully recovered and was healthy.” – the head of the center shared the story of the lioness.
As a reminder, the Kyiv Zoo told the story of the rescue of a pair of cat lemurs from Kherson, whose home was destroyed by Russian shelling.
