Dozens of squirrels died in a Japanese zoo: mass poisoning is possible

The Inokashira Zoo in Tokyo has launched an investigation into the death of 31 squirrels. Animals died within a week after treatment with antiparasitic drugs.
As The Guardian reports, at the beginning of December, as part of sanitary measures, the keepers treated the animals with means designed to destroy parasites. They also sprayed insecticide into their nests.
Shortly after him, one rodent – a common Japanese squirrel – died. During the following days, more and more squirrels died: as of the morning of December 11, 31 deaths were registered. A total of 40 shags lived in the zoo.
“The possibility of drug-induced poisoning cannot be ruled out. We are currently investigating the cause of death of the rodents and monitoring the condition of those that survived.” – they say in the zoo.

Employees will conduct a post-mortem examination of animal corpses.
There they assure that the drugs in question were used in proper doses and had already been administered earlier. The premises were cleaned and checked for safety.
