In the city of Pereyaslav, Kyiv region, there lives a dog, which the locals named Khatiko. In the summer of 2023, he was rescued by construction workers working on one of the city’s facilities. In autumn, the team left, and the tailed man is looking for his saviors every day.

His story was told in the animal protection organization URSA.

When the dog wandered into the construction crew, its neck was wrapped with wire, and because of this, purulent wounds appeared on it. The workers freed the dog from the chain, treated the wounds and began to feed it. He spent the whole summer with his rescuers, and in the fall, after the work was finished, they left the city, and the dog began to look after them.

For several months in a row, he arrives at the bus stop at 7 a.m. and runs for bus #35. At each stop, he looks at the passengers, barks and runs on to the next stop. And so every day – from morning to evening, he runs about 70 kilometers, almost without stopping“, animal rights activists say.

They assume that this behavior of the dog may be provoked by the fact that the men who sheltered it traveled on this particular bus. Probably, due to constant moving, the builders did not have the opportunity to take the animal with them, URSA adds.

Volunteer Tetyana Chebotar from the NGO “In good hands” managed to take Khatiko to the shelter, but he started barking and whining, and then broke free and ran to the same public transport stop.

Every day, Hatiko continues to come to the bus stop, drinks water from a puddle, allows herself to be petted by passers-by she already knows, carefully takes food from their hands and runs“, the animal protection organization notes.

Animal rights activists are currently looking for a family for the dog.

“We believe that Hachiko will be able to switch her attention to the Person she wants to go to, and will become her most loyal friend.” – they note.
