How to get a prescription for medicine if you live in a village? The Ministry of Health explains

From April 1, a number of drugs began to be dispensed again only by prescription, in particular by electronic prescription. However, many rural residents have a question – how to get a prescription if there is no way to get to a doctor? The Ministry of Health explained how to get a prescription for the necessary drugs if you are in a village. “Thanks to the electronic prescription, you can get a prescription for medicine remotely,” says the Ministry of Health. Photo: Syda_Productions/Depositphotos If you have a chronic disease and need to take the necessary drugs on a regular basis, a doctor from another settlement can, by prior agreement, give you a repeat prescription for drugs remotely. To do this, you should discuss this possibility with the doctor, and if necessary, contact the doctor in an agreed format. At the same time, you will only receive an SMS with the number of the prescription and its redemption code, which must be reported to the pharmacist at the pharmacy. The doctor will not only be able to give you an electronic prescription for medicine remotely, but will also monitor the dynamics of your treatment for each such contact, the department says. You can also receive medicines included in the “Affordable Medicines” program free of charge or with partial payment using an e-prescription. If you are unable to obtain an electronic prescription, a paper prescription for the required medication can be written out by a paramedic at a local paramedic and midwifery center. And in the future, the paramedic will also be able to write a prescription in the Electronic Health Care System, the Ministry of Health adds. The ministry promises that medicines will become more affordable for residents of the villages, and “currently the government is working on making appropriate decisions.” Last year, amendments were adopted to the order of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine dated 19.07.2005 No. 360, which regulates the rules for prescribing prescriptions and the procedure for dispensing them. In particular, the government allowed the paramedics of the separate structural unit of the outpatient clinic of the primary medical (sanitary) care center to write out paper prescriptions for patients (except prescriptions for narcotic, psychotropic, poisonous and potent drugs). “The next step is to simplify the requirements for opening pharmacies in rural areas and additionally introduce a mechanism for launching mobile pharmacy points that will work in rural areas where there are currently no pharmacies,” the Ministry of Health says. As a reminder, from April 2023 prescription drugs in Ukraine can be obtained both by electronic and by paper prescription. The list of prescription drugs remained unchanged. Previously, “UP. Life” explained which drugs are available only by prescription and how to find out whether you need to take a prescription for a particular drug.
