David Marjot, 95, graduated from Kingston University with a master’s degree in modern European philosophy. Now the pensioner is considering taking another course.

David Marjot became one of the oldest people ever to graduate from a British university. The current record holder is 96-year-old Archie White, who graduated from the University of Brighton in 2021, writes Kingston Nub News.

The man received a standing ovation from fellow students and the audience as he crossed the stage to receive his diploma. His son and son-in-law accompanied him to the graduation.

“It was hard work, my memory isn’t what it used to be, but I was lucky enough to have world-class teachers and it was a very positive experience. I think it’s important to always challenge yourself, even as you get older.”said the graduate.

Dr. Marjot, who lives in Surrey, is a psychiatrist by profession and qualified as a doctor in 1952. However, changes in the field of psychiatry in the UK over the years forced him to return to education to understand more about the philosophy and how new knowledge could be applied to the profession today.

The master’s course also helped to occupy his mind after the loss of his wife, who died after 65 years of marriage.

According to the BBC, Dr. Marjot is now considering a part-time PhD. He will have to work on this until he is 102 years old.
