In France, 40-year-old experienced skydiver Nicolas Gali died in the air during an unsuccessful jump – his head was torn off by the wing of the plane.
According to the court’s verdict, the pilot of the plane was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter and sentenced to a suspended sentence.
The Association of Parachute Sports Schools, which hired the pilot, was fined 20,000 euros by the court, The Times and BBC write with reference to Le Parisien.

It is reported that Gali did not jump with a parachute, but in a special wingsuit that allows maneuvering in the air. The tragedy happened in July 2018, but the details became known only now, after the court verdict.
According to The Times, there were eight parachutists and two skydivers on board that day. Gali and another man jumped out of the plane, which was at an altitude of 4.4 thousand meters, first.
20 seconds after that, the pilot began to descend rapidly. The wing of the plane caught Gali in the neck area.
The skydriver died on the spot, his emergency parachute was activated.
The second man was not injured.
According to Le Parisien, before the jump, the participants of the flight were not consulted about the trajectory of the plane.
As a result, the law enforcement officers opened a criminal case, 64-year-old pilot Alan Ts. was charged.
In court, the pilot admitted that he did not instruct his passengers and, according to the results of the medical examination, he did not have the right to take off due to medical contraindications.
“Unlike parachutists, who are in free fall for a long time, things are more difficult for skydivers because they move straight. They slowly lose height, so they can collide with the plane.
This is the tragedy of my life, but it is not my fault“, said Alan Ts. during the trial.
The other day, the court announced the sentence to the pilot – he was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter and sentenced to a suspended sentence.
