The draft law on the legalization of medical cannabis was blocked in the Council with hundreds of amendments

People’s deputies of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine introduced 882 amendments to draft law No. 7457 on the legalization of medical cannabis, thus blocking its adoption in the second reading.
As Olha Stefanyshina, a member of the VRU Committee on National Health, Medical Aid and Health Insurance, reported, the amendments were analyzed for three months, and the “most conscious” ones were taken into account.
“Hours of negotiations with farmers, the national police, the public and people’s deputies. We made it work as soon as the Cabinet of Ministers approves the entire sub-law, and patients could receive medicine and relieve their pain already next year.” – says the deputy.
According to Stefanyshina, 226 amendments were introduced by deputies from the “Fatherland” party.

The deputy claims that “Yulia Tymoshenko and her colleagues threaten to take them into account in order to exhaust the hall and deprive the law of votes.”
“This is more than 400 minutes of the Council’s work time, and in fact 2 days of an absolutely senseless spectacle: when amendments are put to the vote just to drag out time and prevent the law from passing the hall.” Stefanyshyn explained.
It will be recalled that in July the Verkhovna Rada adopted the bill on the legalization of medical cannabis in the first reading. The Parliamentary Committee on the Health of the Nation recommended for adoption the draft law on the legalization of medical cannabis in the second reading with changes.
