In Italy, the court sentenced the murderer of a 27-year-old woman to 30 years in prison, but he spent only a few years in prison.
The couple, who had been together for around a decade, were holidaying in Sardinia in June 2017 when Dimitri Fricano stabbed his 27-year-old girlfriend Erica Preti 57 times after she accused him of spilling crumbs on their bed, The Telegraph reported.
Fricano, who hails from the northern Italian town of Biella, initially denied murder and claimed Preti was killed by thieves during a brutal robbery.
After a month of lying, he appeared at the police station and confessed to the crime.

In 2019, the court found him guilty of murder and sentenced him to 30 years in prison.
Since his imprisonment, the weight of 34-year-old Fricano has increased from 120 kilograms to 200.
In addition to gaining weight, Fricano smoked about 100 cigarettes a day in prison.
The court decided that the state of his health “is no longer compatible with the prison regime – if he remains in prison, he may put his life in danger due to cardiovascular risks“.
According to a court order, Fricano must serve the rest of his sentence under house arrest at his parents’ home because the prison is unable to provide him with the special diet he needs.
The parents of the murdered woman called this decision outrageous.
“Allowing him to remain under house arrest is shameful. I knew he wouldn’t serve the full 30-year term, but a few years is too little“, says Fabrizio Preti, father of the murdered woman.
The news that Fricano had been released from prison, he said, was “like a blow to the heart“.
In an interview with an Italian TV channel, Dimitri Fricano said that he personally and during the trial asked for forgiveness from the parents of the girl he killed.
He added that he was very sorry for what he had done and “I would give a fortune if he died and not his girlfriend“.
