In Jamaica, more than 60 children were hospitalized after eating high-potency candies laced with cannabis.
The narcotic product caused vomiting and hallucinations in students at an Ocho Rios elementary school.
About the incident reported the Minister of Education of the country on Twitter Fayval Williams, writes Reuters.
“Just got back from St. Anna’s Hospital. The doctors and nurses are doing everything they can to help the schoolchildren recover. Several of them are on intravenous drips. Moms and dads are there.
One little boy said he only ate one candy. That’s how strong this product is”– Feyval wrote.

Also a minister shared with a photo of rainbow candies poisoned by children.
Each candy contains 100 milligrams of tetrahydrocannabinol (the main psychoactive component of cannabis), which is considered a strong dose even for adults.

In 2015, Jamaica decriminalized the possession of up to 2 ounces (57 grams) of marijuana for religious, medical and scientific purposes and created an agency to license the country’s legal medical cannabis industry.
In the wake of the incident, the Jamaica Marijuana Growers Association is calling for a public education program to promote responsible adult use and prevent children from using the drug, and is pushing for stricter packaging regulations.
“I am sure that together we will strengthen our security regime to fight against the unscrupulous sale of marijuana products to children,” – Fayval Williams also stated.
We will remind, earlier in Odesa, a 14-year-old schoolgirl died of drug poisoning. The police detained a 17-year-old dealer.
