In Kyiv, a 23-year-old man was exposed at a checkpoint, who without documents was transporting 9 spotted deer from Sumy region to Rivne region.

One animal died during transportation in the interior of a minibus, it is reported Kyiv police and Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.

The police arrested the carrier and started an investigation. And the surviving spotted deer were removed and transferred to the Kyiv Zoo for temporary custody.

The dead deer was also handed over to specialists who will conduct research and establish the exact cause of death.

The driver was detained in the evening of April 3. According to the husband, he transported the animals to a farm in the Kyiv region on the order of a businessman he knew from Sumy Oblast. He did not have any documents for animals.

“On April 3, around 10:00 p.m., at the checkpoint at the entrance to Kyiv from Boryspilsky Highway, patrol officers stopped a Renault Master car driven by a 23-year-old resident of the Rivne region.

During the inspection, 9 spotted deer were found in the back of the car. The driver did not have any documents or permission to transport animals. One deer was already without signs of life”the prosecutor’s office wrote.

The man did not give more details. The investigation will find out what he planned to do with the animals next. Currently, the issue of declaring suspicion is being resolved.

Under the procedural guidance of the Darnytsia District Prosecutor’s Office, a pre-trial investigation into the fact of animal cruelty (Article 299 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) has been initiated.

If the fault of the carrier is proven, he faces up to three years prisons
