In Obukhov, Kyiv region, a 43-year-old man stabbed his daughter to death and turned on the gas in the house because of jealousy of his wife, who had gone abroad. The man’s younger son was able to escape, hid in the basement and called the police, said Andrii Nebytov, head of the National Police Headquarters in the Kyiv region. Shortly before the murder of his sister, a 12-year-old boy tried to inform neighbors that his father was abusing him by showing a well-known sign with his fingers – but the child was not understood. “From May 1 to 2, the police of the Kyiv region was called by an alarmed boy who reported that there was trouble in his house: his father was killing his sister,” Andrii Nebytov says. The teams of the response group of the patrol police of the Obukhiv district administration immediately went to the place, and the house was closed. “Understanding that this is an Alpha message and there is a threat to human life and health, they opened the door, went inside and smelled a sharp smell of gas. One employee immediately oriented himself, closed the gas valve that was outside, and they began to examine the house, looking for boy,” says the policeman. The surviving boy Artem recalls the tragic evening as follows: “He opened the door in our rooms and went to get a knife. I hid immediately. She (sister – editor) took the knife from him, told me to run away. I ran, took the phone, ran to the basement to the garage. Tried to open it, he blocked it with something,” says the child. Arriving at the place, the police saw a terrible picture: the first floor was almost completely covered in blood. The girl’s body was lying on the floor – the operator called an ambulance, but she was dead. “They also saw the body of a man in the house, who showed no signs of life. But after the room was ventilated, he had a pulse and was then taken to the local hospital by ambulance,” says Nebitov. A 12-year-old boy said that he came home from training that day. Together with their father, they went to a neighbor’s house to celebrate the neighbor’s wife’s birthday. The man drank alcohol and constantly talked on the phone, recalls the neighbor Petro. “He said that Inna, the wife, went abroad, abandoned them. She found a second husband there, she doesn’t want to come back,” the man commented. A 43-year-old man killed his daughter and wanted to poison the whole family with gas because of jealousy. The suspect called his wife and started a scandal because of jealousy. “He called his wife, began to demand to show her lover, began to involve the children in this. He forced them to tell their mother to come back or tell about the new lover anyway. The children refused to take part in this and went up to the second floor to their rooms.” Andrii Nebytov says. Between two and three in the morning, the father went up to the second floor, woke the children and told them that they were going to die. The man went down to the first floor and turned on the gas. “The elder sister came down after him. They had a conflict. As we found out, the father opened the burners with gas and tried to make sure that the whole family died,” says the head of the State Police Department of the Kyiv region. The children tried to run out of the house. But when they ran to the door, they realized that the handle was broken and they would not be able to leave the house. The eldest daughter resisted her father and tried to shut off the gas. The attacker began to beat his daughter with his fists, grabbed a knife and tried to stab her. Trying to help his sister, 12-year-old Artem tried to call his neighbor, but he did not pick up the phone. “Then he grabbed a kitchen stick and tried to stop the father, hitting him about 20 times on the head. This did not stop the father. He actually cut his daughter’s hand and stuck the knife in her chest,” said Nebitov. According to the medical examiner’s opinion, this blow was fatal. The girl died from blood loss and damage to internal organs. The younger son managed to hide and scored “102”. “It became clear that, in fact, this conflict took place on the basis of inadequate jealousy. The husband was very jealous of his wife, who went abroad in October 2022 and worked in Germany as a cook’s assistant in a Chinese restaurant,” Nebitov said. 12-year-old Artem managed to escape, hid and called the police. The father of the family, a man born in 1979, previously worked as a gardener, and for the last two years as a loader. Neighbors remember that he “was a good man”, but after his wife left to earn money, problems began. “After the departure of the mother abroad, he began to treat the children differently, he became more strict. Even when the boy and his father were with neighbors, he tried to give a sign of violence that he was in danger. Everyone knows the sign when the thumb is clamped with other fingers. But the neighbors did not understand what kind of sign it was and therefore did not attach any importance to it,” said the head of the GUNP in Kyiv region. At the same time, the boy did not report violence in the sports section or at school. The child’s teacher assures that she did not notice anything like that. The boy was allegedly “joyful”, but “not very communicative”. A universal gesture that signals violence “40 minutes before the tragedy, the man sent an SMS to his acquaintances that his family was destroyed, his wife was gone, and he did not understand how to continue living. It is difficult to draw any conclusions from this SMS. But it is quite clear that the person is in an inadequate state and has a strong emotional disturbance. Unfortunately, friends also did not attach importance to this,” Nebytov says. Currently, the man is arrested and hospitalized. He is in a special ward with security. The suspect’s actions were classified under Article 115 of the Criminal Code (“Intentional murder”). The police say that the perpetrator may face even life imprisonment. “The final qualification of his actions will be based on the results of all the examinations and the report as a result of the pre-trial investigation. But practice suggests that this will be the second part of Article 115, which provides even up to life imprisonment. And most importantly: if you see the violence that occurs next to you, or in a family, or in a relationship between two or more people – be sure to report it to the relevant specialists or the National Police.
