As a result of the Russian Federation’s full-scale war, approximately 11 million Ukrainians have problems with access to water, sanitation and hygiene services. This was stated by the spokesman of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) Saviano Abreu in an interview with “Interfax-Ukraine”. “About 700,000 people used water from the Kakhovsky Reservoir. These people are at risk. Some of them no longer have water. In general, about 11 million people in Ukraine experience problems with access to water, sanitation and hygiene services,” Abreu said. He said that now the UN representatives cannot get to the left bank of the Dnieper in the Kherson region, and the “breakthroughs” of negotiations with the Russian Federation are not at the level we would like to expect.” Saviano Abreu. Photo from X In the interview, the spokesman said that the UN expects a worsening of the humanitarian situation in Ukraine and plans to provide aid to 11 million Ukrainians by the end of the year. From October to March, they want to provide “winter” aid to about 1.3 million Ukrainians, which will consist, in particular, of paying rent for housing for internally displaced persons or payment of utility services. According to Abreu, they want to financially help people who do not live near the front line. Citizens in the front-line territories will be helped, in particular, with emergency housing repairs. “There were humanitarian needs in Ukraine before the full-scale war, but they were not so huge, like now 18 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance. This is almost half of the people currently in Ukraine,” Saviano Abreu added. Earlier, we reported that the International Red Cross provides “human aid” to the occupiers in the Mariupol district.
