In Ukraine, children aged 10-12 years and older are the most waiting for adoption. Most often, babies from two months and children up to 5-6 years old are taken into the family. This was announced by the head of the Coordination Center for the Development of Family Education and Child Care, Iryna Tulyakova, on the air of “Edynykh Noviny” on September 17, 2023. According to her, there are currently more than 15,000 children deprived of parental care in Ukraine. 5 thousand of them are in state institutions. “Unfortunately, we have a very large number of families who would like to adopt or adopt a child under the age of 5-6. At the same time, in Ukraine, the largest number of children who need a family are children aged 10-12 and older. However, their expectations often do not correspond to reality, Tulyakova adds. “I would like to draw the attention of potential fathers to the fact that older children also need family warmth. They are waiting for small children. And we actually have very few small children,” she said. The Coordinating Center for the Development of Family Education and Child Care together with the Ministry of Social Policy and the Ministry of Digital Transformation are working to simplify the adoption process with the help of digital innovations. “Compared with other countries, Ukraine does not have the longest period of adoption. The process of learning, preparing and making decisions about adoption cannot be very fast. It must be quite deliberate,” Iryna Tulyakova emphasized.
