In Poland, archaeologists have unearthed a collection of over 550 Bronze Age artifacts. Among the finds, in particular, were women’s necklaces and bracelets.

In addition to jewelry, the site of excavations included burials of representatives of the Helm group, one of the northernmost communities of the Lusatian culture, Heritage Daily reports.

Scientists have discovered the skeletal remains of at least 33 people who inhabited the Chelmno region from 1200 to 450 BC.

Among other finds – a flint spearhead, horse accessories and antler artefacts. This led scientists to believe that animals of the deer family “were ideologically important” for the Lusatian people.

“The necklace was found along with four large metal pins and other pieces of jewelry that may have been part of a woman’s outfit. Also found were earrings in the form of nails, which were probably come from western Ukraine“says a study in the journal Antiquity.

Excavations were carried out in the northern village of Papovo-Biskupe on the site of a dried-up lake.

Analysis of the copper artifacts revealed that they were once packed in baskets made of birch bark and lined with moss.

Reconstruction of a possible female helmet outfit

Representatives of the Lusatian culture traditionally buried the dead together with metal objects in reservoirs, as did most of Europe at the time.

Helmets were not usually made like this. However, the bronze ornaments found in the lake show that the situation was gradually changing.

At first, the ritual customs of the Helms differed from the rest of the Lusatians, but probably later the traditions became equal.

According to scientists, this discovery will provide more insight into the evolution of ritual practices in the late prehistoric period in Central Europe.

The found artifacts will still be investigated.

It will be recalled that earlier Polish archaeologists unearthed five rare axes of the Bronze Age in the forests.
