On the night of May 20, the Russians attacked the capital with “Shakheds”. Debris from one of them damaged a residential building in the Dnipro district and caused a fire. Maria is one of the residents of the capital who saw the wreckage of a downed Russian drone falling on the roof of a nearby building. She told “UP.Zhyttia” about another disturbing night in Kyiv due to Russian shelling. On Friday, May 19, her 6-year-old daughter had a kindergarten graduation. After an emotional day, the child fell asleep. At night, during the air raid, Maria went out on the balcony. “It was around 1:20 in the morning. My husband and daughter were already asleep. At first I heard an explosion. I understood that it was an air defense system, and I calmed down. But then I heard the characteristic sound of “Shaheda” – as if a moped was driving. It was very loud, so I realized that he was flying clearly over the houses,” the woman says. At that moment, the daughter had already woken up and came to her mother. Maria was just going out, and her daughter was going to the balcony and saw how the wreckage of “Shakhed” fell on the neighboring house. “They were bright, shining like a scattering of sparks. It (“Shaheda” – ed.) was accompanied by a powerful sound of an explosion. I grabbed my daughter in my arms and ran barefoot from the apartment to shelter. Our apartment is in the attic, that is, under the roof itself, and the rule 2 walls will not save us,” recalls an eyewitness to the event. Debris fell on the same apartment, but in another building. The house that was damaged by the drone attack She and her daughter went down to the shelter, and the man went down and ran to help rescue people from the smoky house. He cut his palms badly while helping others, but he did not feel any pain. According to Maria, the fire was extinguished for about 2 hours. Residents of the building were not allowed into the apartments. “When I had calmed down, I went to look at the consequences of the fire. It made me nervous again, because I understood that it could have fallen on our apartment,” says Maria. She adds that the neighbors immediately started rallying: they helped people who had a fire. In the morning, burnt furniture was taken out, construction materials and bags for construction waste were purchased. “Many children live in these houses: they went to the same kindergarten. During the day, graduation was held, and at night they were “congratulated” like this,” the woman finally says.
