Left unconscious in the cold: teenagers who beat a disabled man were arrested in Ternopil

In Ternopil, two teenagers beat a 26-year-old man with a disability, and when he lost consciousness, they took him out into the street. The Ternopil native stayed there all night.

In the morning, the janitor found the man in the yard of the house, the police of the Ternopil region reported.

In an unconscious state, he was taken to the intensive care unit of a local hospital, where he was diagnosed with severe hypothermia. In particular, the feet were affected, as the man was without shoes.

The victim was also found to have numerous physical injuries – multiple bruises on the head and body.

In a comment to “UP.Zhyttia”, the spokesman of the police of the Ternopil region, Serhii Kreta, said that the victim is currently in a serious condition – he is in a coma.

The law enforcement officers found out that the victim is a local resident who has been disabled since childhood.

“He doesn’t have a brush. The suspects are first-year students who study at different institutions. What motivated them to commit the crime is not being told yet“, the spokesman said.

According to the police, the day before, the man and his friend were invited to visit by underage friends – a 17-year-old boy and girl.

The company drank alcohol and a conflict arose between them.

Juveniles started punching an acquaintance they beat the head and body with hands and feet, a belt and a mop. When the man lost consciousness, they took his body to the courtyard of the house and left it there“, the police report.

According to regional police chief Serhiy Zyubanenko, the teenagers filmed their actions.

Teenagers are suspected of committing offenses provided for by two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:

  • intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm (Part 2 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code);
  • being left in danger (Part 1 of Article 135 of the Criminal Code).

The sanctions of the articles provide for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of 5 to 8 years. So far, the court has chosen a preventive measure for the teenagers – detention without bail.
