So far, more than 2,800 fragments and bodies of fallen defenders have been identified in Ukraine. The search for their relatives continues.

About this told ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets during a meeting with family members of fallen servicemen (GO “Heart Out”).

Currently, according to the Minister of Health, more than 2,800 bodies and fragments have been identified. The process of finding their relatives for return and burial is ongoing.

Also, according to representatives of state bodies, the relatives cannot find the bodies of some defenders, as they have not yet been handed over to the Ukrainian side. However, the process of repatriation of bodies is taking place. This is reported publicly, Lubinets noted.

The ombudsman was informed that the family members of the fallen servicemen complain about the long period of identification of the unidentified bodies of the defenders.

“Regarding this problem, I turned to the Ministry of Health in 2022 and made proposals related to increasing the number of offices, medical personnel, refrigerators and other equipment. The same topic was discussed at the beginning of 2024 at the Coordination Headquarters.” – noted Dmytro Lubinets.

The family members of the fallen servicemen were also told how much time it would take to identify the bodies, to notify the families of the fallen, the work of the DNA database, etc.

Ukraine is most interested in returning the bodies of our fallen soldiers. Relatives have every right to pay their respects to the fallen soldier, – emphasized the ombudsman.

We would like to remind you that the collection of DNA samples from the relatives of missing persons who are abroad continued. It will last as long as necessary.

To register for a DNA test, you need to fill out an application and send it to your e-mail [email protected].

In it, you must indicate your contact details and the address of the unit where the samples will be collected and the approximate date of the application.

It can be done in seven countries. The addresses of the departments can be found by link.
