Ukrainian writer Oksana Zabuzhko entered the international jury of the 74th Berlin International Film Festival.

So today they announced the members of the jury who will join its president, an Oscar-winning Kenyan actress and film director Lupita Nyong’o. It became known that Nyong’o will head the international jury of Berlinale 2024 last December.

This year, Zabuzhko, a writer, will be part of the jury that will award the Golden Bear for the best film and the Silver Bears for the Jury Grand Prix, Jury Prize, Best Director, Best Leading Role, Best Supporting Role, Best Screenplay and Outstanding Artistic Contribution.

Oksana Zabuzhko, who wrote her first poems in her youth, is perhaps the most prominent writer in Ukraine. She has already published more than 20 books, including poetry, prose and journalism“, – the Berlinale website writes about the writer.

It is also recalled that Zabuzhko taught at US universities such as Pennsylvania, Pittsburgh and Harvard, received numerous awards in her homeland, as well as the French Legion of Honor, the Central European Angelus literary prize for the novel “Museum of Abandoned Secrets” and the Book of the Year 2022 award for the book “The Longest Journey” about the historical background of the current Russian-Ukrainian war.

In addition to Zabuzhko, the international jury also included: a director from Hong Kong En Hui, Spanish director Albert Serraactress and director Jasmin Trinkadirector and actor from the USA Brady Corbett and the director Christian Petzold from Germany.

74th Berlin International Film Festival will be held on February 15-25. Its winners will be announced during the award ceremony at the Berlinale Palace on February 24.

Three Ukrainian films entered the competition program of this year’s Berlinale at once: two documentaries and one feature film. All of them will have their world premieres at the festival.

In particular, a full-length feature film was selected for the Forum program “Version” directed by Roman Bondarchuk (“Volcano”, “Ukrainian Sheriffs”) and a documentary film “Intercepted” directed by Svitlana Karpovych. In the film “Editorial” you can see the actor in one of the main roles Vasyl Kuharskyiwho died in December 2023 from wounds received in the war.

A documentary film will compete in the Panorama Documentary competition “A Little Stranger” directed by Svitlana Lishchynska.

In addition, the Berlinale Shorts program will show German shorts “Unwanted kinship” Belarusian director Pavel Mozhar. In the film, he examines the systematic nature of Russian and Belarusian war crimes in Ukraine and examines his own responsibility for this war.
