Over 900,000 compensation: a man was tried in Volyn, who caught fish for spawning


The court sentenced a 36-year-old man from Volyn, who was fishing during the spawning ban.

The fisherman was fined and ordered to pay 914,000 hryvnias in compensation, according to the court decision.

The incident happened back in April 2023 at Lake Orikhove, which is located on the territory of a hydrological reserve. With the help of three nets, the man caught 60 red bulls, 19 perch, 19 roach, and 82 bream.

He was detained at the scene of the crime and a protocol was drawn up, which was later sent to the court.

At the court hearing, the man fully admitted his guilt. The judge also noted that the accused has positive characteristics and is raising three children.

As a result, the court fined the man 17,000 hryvnias and ordered him to compensate the State Inspectorate for illegally caught fish in the amount of 914,600 hryvnias.

Also, the fisherman has to pay more than 13 thousand hryvnias for conducting examinations.

The court ordered the destruction of the fishing nets, and the confiscation of the boat into state revenue.

The verdict has not yet entered into legal force, it can be appealed in the appeals court.

We remind you that there is a penalty for catching fish on a large scale. Thus, a fisherman from Vinnytsia was fined almost 700,000 for catching 218 kg of fish in October 2023.
