The Academic Choir Chapel of the Ukrainian Radio performed variations of “Schedryk” at the large Lavra bell tower.
Yulia Tkach conducted the chapel, Suspilne reports.
She also took part in the reconstruction concert “Gai, Rozhestvo!” – it took place on Christmas Eve at the National Philharmonic of Ukraine.
The event at the Lavra was created with the assistance of the Leontovych Institute and the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra National Reserve.
We will remind you that Ukrainian “Shchedryk” has long become an integral part of Christmas culture all over the world. The composition is known as “Carols of the Bells”.
The arrangement of the folk song was written by the Ukrainian composer Mykola Leontovych at the beginning of the 20th century. “Shchedryk” was first performed by the Kyiv University choir in 1916.
In 2022, Shchedryk was performed in the original language at Carnegie Hall in New York. It was a triumphant return of the song 100 years after its premiere.
In 2023, the Ukrainian drama of the same name “Shchedryk” was released, which tells about the life of Ukrainian, Polish and Jewish families during two occupations – Soviet and Nazi.
