The American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences refused to show the address of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the Oscars. This is reported by Variety magazine with reference to sources. The publication notes that this is the second time that the organizers of the award have refused Kyiv.

The Zelenskyi administration did not officially announce the president’s desire to speak at the ceremony. The address of the Ukrainian president was shown at the Cannes, Venice and Berlin film festivals and at the Golden Globe award ceremony. The Academy declined to comment on the matter to Variety.

Last year, the magazine writes, the producer of the award ceremony, Will Packer, opposed Zelensky’s performance. According to sources of the publication, he expressed his concern that Hollywood pays attention to the war in Ukraine because it concerns white people, but ignores other conflicts around the world.

The Oscar ceremony in 2023 is scheduled for March 13. This will be the 95th ceremony, the award will be presented in 23 nominations.
