The Cabinet of Ministers approved that the National Military Memorial Cemetery will located near the village of Gatne, bordering Kyiv.

As the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal reported, for this purpose the government has officially identified two plots in the Gatna community of the Fastiv district of the Kyiv region.

“The creation of such a cemetery is of great importance for our country. We must always remember those who gave their lives for Ukraine in the war for our freedom and independence.” – said the head of the government.

We will remind you that the location of the National Military Memorial Cemetery has been contested for a long time.

Thus, in 2022, the KMDA was instructed to develop a site plan for the location of the National Military Memorial Cemetery in the Lysa Gora tract, but activists and the government opposed it.

Later, they decided to create a memorial cemetery for fallen soldiers in Bykivna. The Verkhovna Rada even supported a bill that provided for such a location of the cemetery. This place was also supported by the relatives of the fallen heroes. However, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi never signed this document.

In August 2023, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the implementation of an experimental project for the construction of the National Military Memorial Cemetery in the village of Gatne. However, the relatives of the fallen heroes were against such a decision.

Ultimately, at the beginning of December 2023, the parliament supported the draft law on the construction and operation of the National Military Memorial Cemetery, which stipulates that the location of the cemetery should be determined by the Cabinet of Ministers.

In total, 515 million hryvnias were allocated for the creation of this cemetery.
