In Volochysk, Khmelnytskyi region, a woman reported abuse during childbirth, as a result of which her newborn child ended up in intensive care. Tetyana Galushchak (Dubik) gave birth in the Volochysk multidisciplinary hospital under the supervision of the department’s obstetrician-gynecologist Nataliya Bezukh. According to the woman in labor, during childbirth, Bezukh and other midwives “squeezed” the baby out of her, hit her in the face and poured water on her, called her names and accused her of “pushing incorrectly.” Tetyana’s newborn son Pavlo has been in intensive care for 49 days in a critical condition. The mother accuses the doctor of the Volochysk Multidisciplinary Hospital of negligence – the police have already started an investigation. Tatyana spoke about the terrible birth and the struggle for a fair verdict on her Instagram, as well as in the comment “Ukrainian Pravda. Life”. Tetyana Galushchak (maiden name Dubyk) from Pidvolochysk is a young mother who reported abuse and negligence by doctors during childbirth. Her baby was connected to a ventilator from birth and has been in intensive care for over a month. From the 5th week of pregnancy, the woman was registered in the women’s consultation of the Volochysk multidisciplinary hospital, and the pregnancy was managed by obstetrician-gynecologist Nataliya Bezukh. According to Tatiana, the pregnancy went well: there was no toxicosis, increased or decreased blood pressure, weakness. On July 12, Tetyana started having seizures, so she and her husband went to the hospital, where Nataliya Bezukh was already there. During the examination of the woman in labor, the opening of the cervix was “one and a half fingers”. The woman asked for a caesarean section, but the doctor decided that the birth should be natural. “The last ultrasound was done 5 weeks before the birth, which showed that the weight of the child was 3,500. The doctor, not taking into account that the last five weeks are an active phase of fetal growth and he could actively gain weight, did not do an ultrasound when I was admitted, to at least find out if there is a entanglement. Not to mention the size of the baby,” says Tetyana. Nataliya Bezukh took a surgical instrument and without warning made an incision in the woman’s amniotic sac in order to speed up the process of the baby’s birth. Later, at approximately 10:45 in the morning, during the examination, the doctors found that the opening was already 9 centimeters. According to Tatiana, in order to speed up childbirth, Nataliya Bezukh injected her with an oxytocin solution. “I labored for a long time, the doctor and the midwife shouted at me to labor harder, which I did, but the fetus did not come out. At one point, other gynecologists of this department began to converge. There were five doctors in all, there were also other medical workers, nurses, senior midwife and nurses. Everyone stood by me, shouted that I was “pressing incorrectly”, called me “stupid”, “lazy egoist”, there were also phrases “I was able to do it, but you can’t give birth” and others, which I because of the experience I don’t remember the stress,” Tetyana writes. When the baby’s crown became visible, the doctor said that Tatyana “cannot blow it out”, and two other doctors began to press the woman in labor on her stomach. Although “squeezing” a child (Christeller’s reception) is prohibited in Ukraine, as it is very traumatic and dangerous for mother and child. “When there was no result, they started doing it two at the same time – squeezing the child in four hands. To say that I screamed in pain is an understatement. I asked for oxygen, because I had nothing to breathe, and unfortunately the doctors instead of to give me an oxygen mask, they poured water on me and beat me in the face,” Tatyana’s post reads. Tatyana recalls that when the baby’s head came out, the doctor performed an episiotomy (incision of the perineum) without warning, but it did not affect the birthing process. In a few minutes, the doctor managed to pull the child out with her hand. However, the mother did not hear her son’s cry. “The scariest and most painful moment was when my baby was taken out, but he didn’t cry. The world stopped then. The child was put on my chest for a second and immediately taken to the table, and I heard such phrases as ‘adrenaline and artificial respiration for the child,'” says Tatyana . Doctor Bezukh called the ambulance of the children’s hospital from Khmelnytskyi. Before the arrival of the brigade, according to Tetiana, the baby was being attended to by a doctor who “carried out resuscitation measures for a newborn for the first time”. Tetiana almost did not see her son, but at some point her husband and parents were allowed to come in. The baby was taken away to the intensive care unit of the regional children’s hospital, Tetyana’s husband went with him. The Khmelnytskyi doctors told him that the child’s condition is serious, but there is no threat to life. They concluded that the complications are related to injuries during childbirth. In addition, Tetyana has a narrow pelvis , and the child weighs 4.7 kg and is 56 centimeters tall. After a difficult delivery, they tried to lift Tatyana up and send her “on her own” to the ward. Also, according to her, the doctors did not come to examine her. During the ultrasound, internal hematomas of the abdominal cavity, enlargement of the kidney and other injuries were found in the woman in labor. However, the hospital staff blamed the consequences on the woman herself. “For three days, only midwives and a nurse came to me, as well as a children’s nurse, who said, ‘You understand that it’s not the doctors’ fault, it’s your own fault that you struggled badly,'” Tatyana recounts. View this post on Instagram Post shared Tanya Dubyk (@tanya__dubyk) On the 6th day after giving birth, the woman was discharged, but was forbidden to get out of bed for a month. “I am at home, without a child, crippled, in a difficult psychological state. The man goes to the intensive care unit every morning, buys all the prescribed medicines. He goes to Ternopil to buy medicine that is not available in Khmelnytskyi. And so in a circle. And I’ve been lying down for a month, I haven’t seen my little son,” says the victim. Tatyana turned to the police. At the same time, she stated that a dermatovenerologist at the Volochysk Multidisciplinary Hospital named Yatsuk tried to convince her to take the statement – they say, Nataliya Bezukh is ready to pay the money. We replied that my life, and even more so the life of our child, is not for sale,” reads Tetyana’s post. The doctor Natalia Bezukh herself also asked for a meeting with the victim. Tetyana recalls that during this meeting Yatsuk said: “You are young, you are still give birth”, and Bezuh – that complications happen, children die during childbirth and “she does not know why Tatyana has such karma”. Tatyana cannot disclose the details of the investigation. She only said “UP. Life”, which wants a fair sentence for doctors. “Irlegal actions on the part of the obstetrician-gynecologist led to serious consequences. The baby is in the intensive care unit for 49 days. The condition is critical, the doctors, unfortunately, do not give any forecasts…” – said Tetyana. The police of the Khmelnytsky region reported that they opened criminal proceedings and started a pre-trial investigation. “The police received a statement that as a result of negligent treatment of their professional duties of the obstetrician-gynecologist of the Volochysk Multidisciplinary Hospital during childbirth caused serious consequences for the health of the woman in labor and her newborn child. Based on this fact, the information was entered into the Unified Register of Pretrial Investigations pursuant to Part 2 of Art. 140 (Improper performance of professional duties by a medical worker, if it caused serious consequences to a minor) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine,” the police wrote. If the doctor is found guilty, she faces punishment in the form of restriction of liberty for a term of up to 5 years or imprisonment for a term of up to 3 years. The doctor will also be deprived of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a period of up to 3 years. “Ukrainian Pravda. “Life” tried to call the Volochysk multidisciplinary hospital, but has not yet received an answer.
