In the second reading, the Verkhovna Rada voted in favor of the draft law, which allows pregnant working women to go on vacation later than 70 days before childbirth if they wish. People’s deputy from the “Voice” party, Yaroslav Zheleznyak, reported this. Unused days before childbirth can be added to postpartum leave. In accordance with Article 178 of the Labor Code of Ukraine and Article 17 of the Law of Ukraine “On Leave”, working women are granted a paid leave in connection with pregnancy and childbirth for a duration of 126 calendar days – 70 days before and 56 days after childbirth. That is, women do not have the opportunity to change the start date of such leave, taking into account their medical condition and well-being. In addition, if a woman does not used a part of the indicated leave before giving birth, the unused days cannot be transferred and used by her after giving birth,” the explanatory note of the adopted draft law states. According to the law, in the absence of medical contraindications, a working woman can, if she wishes, start her leave later than 70 (90) days before the expected date of childbirth and proportionally increase the postpartum part of her leave. It is noted that at the same time, the total duration of leave provided for by law will not change.
