The Verkhovna Rada adopted a draft law that allows the storage and use of frozen reproductive cells of fallen soldiers.

264 people’s elected representatives voted for him, deputy Yaroslav Zhelezniak said.

From now on, in case of death, the reproductive cells of a soldier will be stored free of charge in a cryobank for three years. If necessary, this term can be extended by the trustee.

The law also gives guardians the right to dispose of their own reproductive cells in the event of death.

In addition, deceased military personnel will be officially recognized as the father or mother of a child conceived using frozen biological material.

If a person disposed of his reproductive cells before this law came into force, this is also a reason for the use of assisted reproductive technologies.

We will remind you that in November 2023, Volodymyr Zelenskyi signed a law that allowed defenders to store their biological material in cryobanks with state funds.

However, it later turned out that an amendment was adopted to the same law, which states that from March 2024, the frozen sperm of military personnel will be disposed of after their death.

The public discussion of the disposal problem was started by lawyer Olena Babych. She said that her client refused to use the sperm of the dead man, who submitted the sperm for cryopreservation and issued all the necessary documents before going to the front.
