The Ministry of Culture has lost another deputy minister – what is the reason?

The Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine, which recently got rid of the minister Oleksandr Tkachenko, and whose head is now left with Tkachenko’s first deputy – Rostyslav Karandeev, continues to lose personnel. Following Deputy Minister Halyna Grigorenko, who said in a comment to UP.Zhyttia that she was leaving her position due to personnel changes in the Ministry and thought that she would be more useful outside the state sector, Deputy Minister Kateryna Chuyeva is leaving MKIP. In a lengthy post on social networks, Kateryna noted that she made the decision the week before last and wrote a resignation letter in advance, expecting to officially say goodbye to MKIP on Archaeologist’s Day, August 15. However, the agreement was delayed. Kateryna explains her decision to resign due to the changes in the ICIP that have taken place in recent months, and in general, the specifics of work in the ministry. “It was difficult for me to accept the existing architecture of public administration and decision-making methods in this system. From the outside, the situation looked different, and I must say that my ideas were quite idealistic. Large volumes of operational tasks, urgent assignments and papers also did not allow me to focus on what I considered priorities. Over time, the divergence of my vision with the tasks that had to be performed and with the position of some important members of the team became critical,” Kateryna Chueva wrote. Read also: “De-nationalization of theaters and operas is homework for their managers”: Deputy Minister of Culture Halyna Grigorenko Kateryna explained that for some time she concentrated on issues where the safety and preservation of cultural heritage objects directly depended on the Ministry. “There was a need to continue the evacuation, to prioritize heritage issues at the government level and constant communication with colleagues, institutions and international partners, for whom communication with the ministry, in particular, in matters of assistance, was important,” wrote Kateryna Chuyeva, thanking everyone, who helped and initiated effective changes in the work of MKIP. When asked by UP.Zhyttia whether Kateryna Chuyeva already has certain plans for the future – and whether she is going to return to the museum sphere, she noted that she does not have an exact plan of action at the moment, but she would like to return to research work in the field of art. “Honestly, I feel exhausted and I don’t have a concrete plan yet. Of course, I would be happy to at least partially return to research, which I have constantly postponed due to management work in recent years,” said Kateryna Chuyeva. Before working in top political positions, Kateryna was the General Director of the Bohdan and Varvara Khanenki National Art Museum (2018–2021) and was engaged in scientific work.
