Taras Kremin, the Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language, called on local authorities, military administrations and owners of private preschools to rename kindergartens in accordance with Ukrainian orthography and state language standards.

“Often they have a Russian character and do not meet the standards of the state language, and some are just common sense.” noted Taras Kremin.

After selectively checking the register of subjects of educational activity, the ombudsman found the following names: “Ivushka”, “Ladonky”, “Karandashkino”, “Solnyshko”, “Kuzniechik”, “Vasylok”, “Topolok”, “Zorenka”, “Zainka” , “Cheryomushki”, “Roma+Mashka”, “KulBabochka”, “Injerash”, “Mugurel”, “Universul prekindeilor”, “Endekert”, “Pachirta”, “Montessori Femeli”, “Britannica Kids”, “Speak English” , “Greenrice Kids”, etc.

“Synonymous names are mostly found in the eastern and southern regions of Ukraine, but foreign language names are present everywhere, and this must be put to an end!

We must resolutely defend the priority of the state language in all spheres of life, because this is the strengthening of national interests and strengthening of national security.” – emphasized the Commissioner.

According to Article 39 of the law “On ensuring the functioning of the Ukrainian language as a state language”, the official names of state bodies, enterprises, institutions and organizations must be in the Ukrainian language.

Inscriptions on seals, stamps, forms and signs must also be in the state language.

Names in English are allowed, but they can only be located on the right side or at the bottom.
