The Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language, Taras Kremin, imposed a fine on a Kyiv taxi driver who refused to serve female passengers in Ukrainian.

He told about this on the air of the “Pryamiy” TV channel, according to the Commissioner’s website.

According to the ombudsman, the taxi driver must pay a fine of 3,400 hryvnias.

The fine has not yet been paid, but I want to confirm that we are conducting claims work for each of these facts and if the facts are confirmed, we use the entire arsenal (punishment – ed.) of the Code of Administrative Offenses“, said Taras Kremin.

He added that during 2023, the department received a record number of reports on violations of the language law.

“In 2023, we received 3,692 appeals, which is 30% more than in 2022,” Kremin added.
