Pope Francis has suggested that there may be ways to bless homosexual couples, The Guardian reports.
The Vatican published Pope Francis’ letter to the cardinals. This was the answer to their list of five “hot” questions about faith and morality.
Francis noted that a spouse is a man and a woman. At the same time, he suggested that the blessing of homosexual couples “could be studied”, but it should be different from the blessing of marriage.
“Pastoral discernment must adequately recognize whether there are forms of blessing requested by one or more persons that do not convey a false idea of marriage.
After all, when they ask for a blessing, they express a request for help from God, a plea for the opportunity to live better, trust in the Father, who can help us live better.” – writes the Pope in a letter.
Francis also noted that there are situations that are “unacceptable from a moral point of view.”

“…pastoral mercy requires us not simply to treat other people as “sinners” whose guilt or responsibility can be mitigated by various factors affecting subjective responsibility”, Francis noted.
The Pope believes that such a blessing should not be turned into a “fixed norm”, instead, a separate decision should be made for each specific situation.
“Allowing clergy to bless same-sex couples means that the church truly recognizes that holy love can exist between same-sex couples, and that the love of these couples reflects the love of God.
This recognition, while not exactly what LGBTQ+ Catholics would like, is a huge step toward fuller and more inclusive equality.” Francis DeBernardo, executive director of New Ways Ministry, a Catholic organization that advocates for the rights of LGBTQ+ people, commented on the letter.
It will be recalled that earlier Pope Francis talked about whether there is a place for gender diversity in the church.
