The source of the outbreak of hepatitis A in Vinnytsia has not yet been established, but there are assumptions – the Ministry of Health

As of November 16, it is not known for sure what caused the outbreak of viral hepatitis A in Vinnytsia region. At the same time, the Ministry of Health assumes that the pathogen could be in the water supply network.
This was stated by Minister of Health Viktor Lyashko in an online interview with UNICEF medical expert Kateryna Bulavinova.
“The source from which the outbreak started has not been clearly established. Various options have been considered. We give the most preference to the option with the water supply network, but we also do not exclude the possibility of a food route of transmission.” said the minister.
According to him, the situation with the response to the outbreak of hepatitis A demonstrated how the health care system of Ukraine has changed.

“We switched to the introduction of anti-epidemic measures that could quickly produce results. For example, although no pathogen was detected in the water supply, we immediately started hyperchlorination. This could potentially destroy other pathogens (which could still be there – ed.), so in the future we didn’t find them” – explained Lyashko.
He added that the transmission of the infection took place in a household way – most patients were found among the family and contact persons of the infected.
“Now the entire amount of information collected is being analyzed. Retrospectively, we will still “find” patient zero and understand what the source was (infection – ed.)”. – said the head of the Ministry of Health.
According to Lyashko, the outbreak of hepatitis A in Vinnytsia region also forced him to draw conclusions about the functioning of emergency response teams.
“On Thursday, the minister set the task of sending an emergency response team to Vinnytsia. On Friday, they met to discuss how (to do this – ed). On Saturday, they are preparing documents. They will not leave on Sunday, then they will go on Monday. That is , emergency response team for three days she drove to the hearth, which needed their help“, – reminded Viktor Lyashko.
He claims: the system should not work like that, so certain work algorithms will be changed.
“We live in a chaotic world and emergency response teams must respond urgently.” – emphasized the minister.
