“The war took everything from me”: in Lviv, a woman who was injured by shelling in Donetsk region received prosthetics

The woman was injured while working in a grocery store in her native Toretsk, which the occupiers are still shelling. “When the first Russian projectile flew nearby, Olena ran out of the room. The second ammunition hit the store. Ms. Olena’s colleague, who did not leave the building, died,” the female medics tell the story. Photo: Nezlamni Olena received shrapnel wounds, and one fragment hit the neck of the thigh. “When the shells continued to fly, the woman covered her head with her hands and screamed: ‘God, I want to live so much!'” the doctors quoted the woman as saying. The rescuers evacuated the wounded woman to Kostyantynivka, where she was given first aid. the heart endured – he died. The woman didn’t even have a chance to say goodbye to him. “The war took everything from me: home, family, work. In one moment I lost everything. There is a huge wound in my soul that I will never be able to heal,” says Ms. Olena. Then in Dnipro, doctors removed the fragment, stabilized the woman’s condition and sent her to Lviv for further treatment. Traumatologist Volodymyr Vovchko says that the woman’s joint was replaced with prosthesis. In this way, the specialists managed to preserve the function of the limb. Now the patient is recovering after the operation and is already taking the first steps.
