In Lviv, the winners of the “Lviv – UNESCO City of Literature” literary prize were announced, announced the mayor of Lviv, Andriy Sadovy.

The special award for the work about the war was divided between them Nina Zahozhenko for the play “Me, war and plastic grenade” and Yaryna Chornoguz for a poetry collection “[dasein: оборона присутності]”.

Lviv Award – UNESCO City of Literature – an annual all-Ukrainian literary award, founded to honor works of modern literature and give them public resonance. It is awarded to an author or translator for an original or translated work of art in the Ukrainian language.

The literary prize is awarded by the city of Lviv. The prize money is 150,000 hryvnias. The winners of the “Essay on War” nomination receive 100,000 hryvnias each.
The publication Chitomo notes that the jury of the 2023 award included:
- Iryna Starovoit — Associate Professor of the Department of Cultural Studies of UCU, member of the Ukrainian PEN, guest researcher at Oxford University, chairman of the jury of the UNESCO City of Literature Lviv Prize;
- Vasyl Kmet — historian-medievalist, archivist, candidate of historical sciences, director of the Lviv Municipal Library;
- Khrystyna Nazarkevich — Ukrainian translator, assistant professor of the Department of German Philology of the Lviv National University named after I. Franko;
- Ostap Slyvinsky — writer, literary critic, vice-president of PEN-Ukraine, candidate of philological sciences;
- Anastasia Gerasimova — literary critic.
