A resident of the Galician community in Ivano-Frankivsk region corresponded with a foreigner on social media for a month.
The Internet swindler, intruding on the woman’s trust, persuaded her to transfer 607,000 hryvnias for a fictitious parcel.
The victim said that she met a man on a social network who allegedly lives in London, reports the police of the Ivano-Frankivsk region.
“The swindler corresponded with the applicant for almost a month. And then he allegedly sent the woman a parcel with things, valuable gifts and money”the police inform.

The department adds that later, an unknown man called the woman from a foreign number, who introduced himself as an agent of a courier company and said that he needed to pay a fine for customs control of the parcel.
For several payments, Prikarpattia transferred almost 607,000 hryvnias to the fraudster, but never received the sent parcel.
Police tips on how not to become a victim of crime while dating online:
- do not enter into a confidential conversation with unknown people on the network;
- don’t trust a virtual suitor who says he bought you a gift and can’t pay the duty. The scammer usually offers to pay for the package;
- ignore requests for correspondence from strangers and in no case transfer money.
