They tried to send rare bronze artifacts of Kievan Rus by post from Ukraine to Great Britain. Historical artifacts were discovered in the parcel during customs control, Kyiv Customs reports. Seven pieces of cold weapons and their decorations from the 2nd-12th centuries AD were discovered in a postal shipment headed from Uman to Great Britain. It is decorated with the image of a bird, in which the head, beak, eyes and feathers are detailed. Another rare detail is represented by the intertwining of the bodies of three dragons or snakes. “A regional variety of a bronze tip from a sword scabbard (buterol) and a bronze three-leaf inlay that decorated a bandage or scabbard of a sword – a trixel. PHOTO Photo: Kyiv Customs Also found in the shipment: a bronze fibula-brooch with incised enamel (provincial Rome II-III centuries AD); a type of bronze pommel of a sword handle of Roman origin with an ornament (XI-XII centuries AD); the cross of the sword handle and the base of the bifold pommel from the sword handle (XI-XII centuries AD); the head of the bifold pommel of a sword handle (XI-XII centuries AD). All artifacts are authentic, made of bronze using pre-industrial technologies. The customs noted that a report on violation of customs rules was drawn up in relation to a citizen who sent rare valuables abroad. The artifacts were removed.
