Ukrainian pianist, musicologist and composer Oleksandr Kozarenko died in Ivano-Frankivsk at the age of 59. According to the composer’s sister, during treatment for pneumonia, his condition worsened to the point of uncontrollable, so Kozarenko was urgently transferred to the intensive care unit of the infectious disease hospital in Ivano-Frankivsk. Since 1992, he taught at the Lviv Academy of Music, was the head of the Department of Philosophy of Arts. Wrote music in the genres of symphonic, operatic, ballet, choral, chamber-instrumental, vocal and theater music. Kozarenko’s works were included in the repertoire of leading Ukrainian ensembles (“Kyiv Camerata”, Kyiv Saxophone Quartet, “Lviv Virtuosos”), performed in Ukraine and many countries around the world. He is the author of music for more than half a hundred plays. It was Kozarenko’s chamber cantata “Pierro Dead Loop”, which premiered in 1994 in Lviv, that revealed new facets in the talent of Vasyl Slipak – the world-famous Ukrainian opera singer, soloist of the Paris National Opera, who died in the Russo-Ukrainian war.
