Ukrainian documentary director Ihor Kobrin has died

The Ukrainian documentary director and founder of the Telekon studio passed away at the age of 73. Ihor Kobrin. This was reported by his colleague, a film expert Stella Klominska.

“And sad news again… We just received a phone call… My colleague, fellow student, film director Ihor Kobrin has passed away. Goodbye, friend!“, Klominska wrote.
Ihor Kobrin is a laureate of the Shevchenko Prize in 1989, a member of the National Union of Cinematographers of Ukraine. He received the title of Honored Artist of Ukraine in 2008 for his significant personal contribution to honoring the memory of the victims of the Holodomor of 1932–1933.
He founded a television studio “Telecon”, which specializes in the production of documentaries, series and TV programs. The company’s film crew cooperated with foreign TV channels, including the BBC.

The creative output of the director consists of documentary series “1941” and “1945”movies “I don’t want to remember”, “Hostages of freedom”, “Orange slice”, “Cathedral on blood”, “Bread guillotine”, three-part tape “Melting Cauldron” and other.
Kobrin became the screenwriter and producer of the documentary film trilogy “Chernobyl: Two colors of time“. The film crew was making a film during the Chernobyl disaster. In one of the interviews, Ihor Kobrin himself talked about the details of filming, censorship and the risks the team faced.
“It was really scary for the first time when we went to the Red Forest (the Pine Forest, which separated the nuclear plant and the city of Pripyat, was the first to receive a radioactive blow after the explosion at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. The needles and branches of the trees immediately after irradiation received a reddish color, ed.). No one knew what was there, because no one had been there before us. We filmed how employees of the Kurchatov Institute took measurements there. Later, the Red Forest was completely destroyed because the trees there were radioactive. This episode is in the second part of our film, which they wanted to ban“, the director shared then.
A film blogger and former director of the cinema “Kinopanorama” also spoke about Kobrin’s death Natalia Soboleva:
