The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine supported the draft law on the location of the National Military Memorial Cemetery in the Dnipro district of Kyiv. People’s Deputy of Ukraine Yaroslav Zheleznyak and People’s Deputy, head of the State Investment Projects Subcommittee of the Budget Committee of the VRU Anna Purtova informed about this. The bill was supported by 322 parliamentarians. As Anna Purtova told “Ukrainian Pravda. Life”, the National Military Memorial Cemetery will be located on Brovarskiy Prospect in the Dnipro District of Kyiv, in the Bykivnia area. “Currently, a land management project is being developed on the indicated land. Part of it is the land of the Darnytskyi forest park farm, about 10 hectares, plus 70 hectares of land adjacent to the reserve “Bykivnyanski moghily” and is its protection zone,” said the deputy. According to Anna Purtova, on the ninth year of the war, the issue of a decent burial place and commemoration of fallen soldiers is very relevant in society, in particular, among the families of fallen defenders. “The flasks with ashes have been with the families for months, and they are waiting for everything. Previously, a proposal to create a military cemetery on Lysia Gora was considered. But it did not find support from the public. Therefore, now it is about Bykivnia,” says Anna Purtova. She noted that it will be possible to carry out the burial and proper commemoration of the fallen defenders in the fall of 2023. “It is planned to transfer to use and change the purpose of land plots of state and communal property for the placement of the cemetery. For now, the main thing is to quickly give a practical opportunity to bury the dead. This is our common pain. It will be the smallest real gratitude instead of a thousand words,” said the deputy. The Bykivnian Graves Reserve is Ukraine’s largest burial place for victims of the mass political repressions of 1937-1941. The territory of the reserve is almost 239 hectares. Representatives of all social strata of Ukrainian society found their last refuge in the Bykivnyan burial grounds: from workers and peasants to the intellectual elite (scientists, writers, artists). It will be recalled that earlier it was planned to place a military cemetery on Lysia Gora. However, due to public protests, the authorities decided to find another place for the military cemetery.
